Year of the Beard

2009 is the year of the beard

I’m on Vacation September 13, 2009

I took two weeks off of work.

I decided I’m going to drive around the east coast for two weeks. No plans really, just going to get in my car tomorrow and start driving. I know there are a few people I plan on seeing.

Anyways, I won’t have many updates for two weeks. Not that I’ve been updating a lot lately, but Year of the Beard is doing a road trip so don’t expect to see me for a bit.

I’ll take pictures, I promise.

Toodles.

Oh, I have a blog? September 7, 2009

Whoops, turns out I’ve forgotten to update in quite a bit. Well, let’s take care of that right now.

First things first, we have to talk about a little thing called “Year of the Beard Guest Bartending.” Let me just say, I have a new respect for bartenders. For years now I’ve wanted to be a bartender. I know people who work at / own bars, and I’ve always been trying to get them to let me bartend. But after one night I can say that my career is done. That is a very hard job that requires a lot of patience and fast movement. Very stressful.

But the night was incredibly fun. We had a great turn out and I can’t thank the staff of Forti’s enough. They were extrememly helpful and I really appreciate them letting two guys who had no clue what they were doing try to raise some money.

And raise some money we did. All and all, we collected $712 for the Domestic Violence Center. I really appreciate everyone who came out. I hope you all had a great time (I did) and thank you so much for providing this donation. You all rule. I really can’t say thank you enough for this.

In other bearded news, the two Year of the Beard bartenders are now also Year of the Beard movie stars! “What?” Oh, let me explain. Jon and I joined this group that makes a short film every month. Each month we are given a theme, and the goal is to make a movie based on that theme. You get one month to do it. Jon and I joined at the beginning of August, and yesterday was the debut of our first film! The theme was “The Perfect Crime” and Jon and I made a movie called “Little Criminals.”

Enjoy!

A buddy of mine, Frank, posted this on a message board I like to read from time to time. I thought I’d share it here, because, as you know, I love beards.

Where have you been? August 18, 2009

Filed under: Beard Talk — andy @ 11:56 am

It has been brought to my attention that I haven’t updated Year of the Beard much recently. That is very true. I have been quite busy actually, so let’s get started.

I am working on a short movie with fellow Year of the Beard participant Jon Rybicki! We joined a group that makes a movie every month. Each month has its own theme and you have to make a movie to fit the theme. The theme this month is “The Perfect Crime” and Jon and I have been putting a lot of thought into it. Once it is debuted (I believe in early September) I will post it up here.

Sadly, Shark Week is over. What a bummer. But a new season of America’s Best Dance Crew (or ABDC as they call it now) has started. That’s just great.

I am currently wearing a tie, and I went through the trouble to tie a Windsor knot, but you can’t see it because my beard is too long. That’s both awesome and upsetting at the same time.

I’m moving. Again. That will make three moves in six months. I hope this one is pretty permanent though. I am moving in with some friends in a great house in a great part of town. I’m a little worried because one of the people I’m moving in with said, “If I find random beard hairs all over the place I’m kicking you out.” Well, Holly, you will be finding beard hair. I’m sorry, I can’t help it. But please don’t kick me out. You have a cat, I’m sure that thing leaves hair everywhere.

Now, the most important news. Friday, August 28th, at Forti’s in downtown Cleveland Year of the Beard Presents Guest Beardtending! The wonderful people at Forti’s have agreed to let Jon and I guest bartend for one night only! We will be bartending from 8pm to midnight, and if you come with Year of the Beard you get happy hour prices that whole time! Happy hour usually ends at 7 so this is an extremely awesome deal. We’re going to be accepting “tips” throughout the night, and all those tips are going straight to the Domestic Violence Center. So come on out on August 28th! Support the cause! Come say hi! I’ll be the guy behind the bar with the beard.

Forti’s is located at 746 Prospect Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115. I’m going to be adding it to my “events” page soon, with more information about drink and food specials, so keep checking back.

Shark Week! August 3, 2009

It’s the best week of the year. Shark Week. If you can name a better week, I’ll give you a free Year of the Beard shirt.

But don’t even try because there’s no better week.
